About Cheekies Masks

Everyone's face shape and size is different, but generally most women wear small/medium and most men wear large/extra-large.

If your mask fits too small or too large, let us know and we'll send you a replacement - on us (you just cover shipping). Read more about our Fit Matters Policy.

Your mask includes an adjustable nose strip to help seal and protect you. Here's how to use it:

Cheekies adjustable aluminum nose strip

1. Locate the small insert on the inside of the top black strap of your mask (near the center).

2. Insert the aluminum nose strip.

3. Slip the elastic over the trailing end of the nose strip so that it is completely enclosed inside the black elastic band.

4. Center the mask on your face, and place the nose strip above the bridge of your nose.

5. Bend the strip around the bridge of your nose for a secure and comfy fit.

No, our masks are not lab-tested or certified for medical use. Our masks are intended to meet CDC recommendations for wearing cloth-based face masks in public settings, or when social distancing measures are difficult to maintain. Read more on these guidelines here.

We use digital 3D-knitting technology to enhance breathability, comfort, and protection throughout various zones in the mask. This includes a 3-layered spacer fabric (example shown below) that covers the nose and mouth for extra protection, while still allowing for breathability. Learn more about spacer fabric, and their applications in medical textiles and high-performance apparel, here.

Additionally, a recent study has demonstrated that an improperly fitted mask can reduce over 60% of its filter efficacy. That's why we include an adjustable aluminum nose strip, and developed elasticated polyester straps, to help seal around the unqiue contours of each individual's facial structure. We also offer a Fit Matters Policy to ensure you get a mask that fits you properly.

Finally, we're highlighting some of the latest research and studies in our Science of Masks blog series. Visit our blog to learn more.

We recommend consulting a physician before working out strenuously in any sort of protective face covering.

We also recommend following any and all direction from your public health authority when deciding whether or not to exercise outdoors with, or without, a face mask.

If you are cleared to work out in a mask, we absolutely encourage you to wear your Cheekies. We developed our mask with performance fibers and targeted breathability to help keep you cool and comfortable at all times.

Our masks are made from a premium, sustainable fiber made from recycled plastic bottles (94% recycled polyester, 6% elasticated polyester). You can find out more information about the recycling process and our fiber on our Sustainability page.

Yes! We highly recommend washing your mask as often as you can.

The most energy efficient, environmentally friendly, and effective method for washing is with soap and water, by hand. Just like washing your hands, scrub with soap and water for at least 20 seconds (the more the better), then rinse thoroughly with cool water. Get rid of any excess water with a quick shake and a squeeze, then hang to dry. Let it get some sun and fresh air while you’re at it!

You can also toss your mask in with your laundry. We recommend washing with cold water on gentle cycle, and tumble dry on low setting for energy and water conservation.

If you're using the aluminum nose strip, remove it prior to washing.

General masking questions

Consult your state health department websites for the most current recommendations in your area since requirements change frequently. You should also consult your county health department website to understand if there are differences between state and local guidance.

CDC has simple and easy-to-follow recommendations listed on their website on when to wear your mask:

- CDC recommends that people wear cloth face coverings in public settings and when around people who don’t live in your household, especially when other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain.

- Cloth face coverings may help prevent people who are sick with an infectious virus from spreading the virus to others.

- Cloth face coverings are most likely to reduce the spread of infectious virus when they are widely used by people in public settings.

Per the CDC's guidelines, we recommend that masks should not be worn by:

- Children younger than 2 years old

- Anyone who has trouble breathing

- Anyone who is unconscious, incapacitated, or otherwise unable to remove the mask without assistance
